Design and history
The Square Metre rule controls sail area rather than overall dimensions.
It produced long, narrow yachts with low resistance and a direct response under sail.
Marcus and Meagan Hutchinson bought Vivi at Cowes in 2001. She travelled by ship to New Zealand in 2002 for restoration at the Brookes yard.
Restoration programme
Vivi arrived with extensive deterioration.
The restoration included removal of failed material, renewal of internal structure, fairing of the long hull, fitting the deck and cockpit, completing the interior and returning the yacht to her rig.
The work required the original proportions and lightness of a square-metre yacht to remain central throughout the rebuild.
